Barcelona (Portland Harbor) Lighthouse

Location: Lake Erie, near the town of Westfield, in western New York State

Description: 40-foot conical stone tower. Lamps were fueled by a local natural gas supply.

History of light:

• 1828-29. Built.

• 1857: Fourth Order lens installed.

• 1859: Decommissioned.

• 1872: Property, tower and dwelling sold to private owner.

• 1962: Small light installed atop tower.

Current use: Privately owned. Not an active aid to navigation.

Public access? No. On private property, but can be seen from the road.

Other information: Was originally called the Portland Harbor Light. First keeper was Joshua Lane. Is the westernmost lighthouse in New York.
