Fire Island Light Photo Gallery
The following photographs were taken during a visit to the Fire Island Lighthouse on 4/17/99. I was fortunate enough to be accompanied by Gayle E. Haines, Ed. D., President of the Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society from 1991 to 1998. If you are going to visit Long Island, make the trip to this light.

The lantern, viewed from the ground.
The DCB-224 optic, viewed from the watch deck.
Looking west along Fire Island toward the inlet. The Atlantic Ocean on the left; the Great South Bay on the right. When the original light was built, this land did not exist.
Looking east from the watch deck.
The foundation from the original light still exists, southwest of the present tower. The neighboring boat house is from the 1950's.
A closer look at the base of the original light.
This link will take you to an image I took of the Fire Island light at dawn on May 16, 1999. I minimized the text on the page to make it more enjoyable. Use your browser's Back button to return here.
